More than 60 2nd year students of the Biotechnology Faculty of al-Farabi Kazakh National University, took a tour of the IMBB laboratories during a month (from May 20 to June 9, 2023). This unique opportunity allowed them to better understand and see with their own eyes how theoretical knowledge is applied in practice, experimental research is carried out on modern equipment and new knowledge is comprehended based on proper scientific competencies.
The visit tour took place in all the laboratories of the Institute: Protein and nucleic acids, structural and functional genomics, genome, biotechnology and molecular genetics, molecular immunology and immunobiotechnology, plant bioengineering and biochemistry of grain crops. Heads of the laboratories and researchers acquainted students with the history of the Institute, research, achievements, current projects and modern equipment used for scientific work in the field of molecular biology and biochemistry.
Such laboratory tours not only expand the horizons of students, but also inspire them to further scientific knowledge and aspirations. This will help future scientists to better understand what problems are being solved in the field of molecular biology, biotechnology, biomedicine and biochemistry, as well as what opportunities open up for them after graduation.
