I cordially congratulate you on the upcoming 2024^th Year!

It is traditional to see off the old year by summing up the results. Success in the future is the results of the work done in the past and present. The year 2023 was difficult, and at the same time, significant for science in our country. In support of innovation, research and development of scientific areas, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of RK took an important step – it increased funding to 640 billion tenge for 2023-2025, this is unprecedented funding for the entire period of independence of our country. I am confident that these changes will allow us to bring innovative ideas to life, expand the boundaries of our knowledge and contribute to the development of not only our scientific field, but the entire country.

In the past year, scientists from M. Aitkhozhin Institute of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry carried out research within the framework of grant projects and scientific and technical programs. Grants were received (2023-2025) on a competitive basis. The following research was carried out within the framework of the program: the design and synthesis of oligonucleotides and probes for multiplex real-time PCR of raspberry, apple, and grape viruses were carried out; collected samples of apple trees, pears, cherries and apricots in the Almaty region, designed and synthesized primers for viroids for the RT-PCR reaction; DNA samples of isolates from affected shoots and leaves of fruit crops were obtained; the dsAvr3a sequence was obtained by overlapping PCR; the dsAvr3a sequence was cloned into the Agrobacterium vector; control plants and plants of the original biotechnological cisgenic potato lines from the collection were propagated; a collection of source plants of strawberry, blackberry and serviceberry varieties was created in greenhouses; Plants of all crops were cultivated and source material was obtained for introduction into in vitro culture; Innovative work has been carried out in the field of immunology, immunobiotechnology, biomedicine and oncology.

Several applications have been submitted for the current competitions for 2024-2026.

6 agreements have been concluded with scientific organizations and universities on mutual cooperation in the field of scientific research and improvement of knowledge.

5 employees received the title of associate professor, 6 people entered PhD-doctoral studies.

The International Conference of Young Scientists “Fundamental and Applied Research in the Field of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology” dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the founding of M.Aitkhozhin Institute of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry was successfully held.

About a hundred scientists from Kazakhstan, Russia, Great Britain, France, the USA, Azerbaijan and Belarus took part in the conference in face-to-face and online format. World-famous scientists – Shukhrat Mitalipov, professor at the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy at Oregon Health & Science University; Murat Saparbayev, head of the DNA repair group at the Gustavus Russi Institute and member of the National Council for Science and Technology under the President of the RK; Arkhat Abzhanov, international evolutionary scientist, developmental biologist, head of the scientific group at London Imperial College and employee of the National Museum of Natural History. The conference contributed to the exchange of experience, the establishment of international connections and the possibility of implementing joint scientific projects in the future.

Today, we can say with confidence that a lot of work has been done, and in the coming year there are all the prerequisites for no less eventful events and activities. I am confident that we have every opportunity to implement the assigned tasks, taking into account our personnel potential and accumulated experience. I am grateful to every employee of M. Aitkhozhin Institute of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry for their contribution to the development of our Institute.
